About Us

We love kids at Life Community!  We believe children are a heritage from God and are our most precious gift.  We feel really blessed to have an opportunity not only to interact with kids in regards to faith and character, but also to partner with their parents.  We get to influence kids lives about 40 hours a year, but parents have them for roughly 3000 hours of non-sleeping, non-school time.  WOW!  That’s a lot.  So part of of focus is to equip and empower parents to be the spiritual champions in their homes.

J.R. Kennedy – Kids’ Pastor

J.R. joined the staff of LCC in July of 2005 serving in the role of Pastor of Children’s Ministries. But, if you see him in the lobby please just use J.R., not Pastor J.R., Mr. Kennedy or sir. He has been working with kids in one role or another since the summer of 1998 when he spent 8 weeks serving as a chaperone at a children’s camp, though he distinctly remembers signing up to work anywhere other than with small children. That was the summer when God began to form a passion in his life for a life of ministry to kids.  J.R. thinks that he’s got the best leadership team and volunteer crew around and wouldn’t trade them for anything.  He’s got lots of great memories from Kids’ Life, most of which center on the indescribable look on a child’s face when they understand something about God for the first time, or when they’re really engaged in what’s happening right at a particular moment, like worshiping God, for example.  There’s lots of crazy memories too, the highest one on the list currently involves an “incident” with poopy. J.R. is typing this bio himself and is not entirely sure why he’s writing it in third person, but He is sure that he’s looking forward to many more years of serving God by ministering to kids and their parents.

Sloat, Hilary

Hilary Sloat – Kids’ Life

Remembering the days in the movie theater, Hilary has worked in Kids’ Life for more than 6 years. She has seen it all. Spreading rugs in movie theater hallways, teaching kids on the big screen, and stopping children from eating stale popcorn off of the movie theater floor. Things have come a long way since then, and Hilary is proud to be a part of the growth. One of her joys about working in Kids’ Life is working in connection with parents to create a strong foundation for kids that can see them through life.  Hilary is currently a cell group leader for a group of 1st through 3rd grade kids.

Rebekah Kennedy – Jr. Kids’ Life

Rebekah has been at LCC since 2005. The story of how to she came to LCC is short and simple, her husband got a job there and she’s been around ever since.  She has worked in just about every volunteer role there is in Kids’ Life. Her first ever role was that of small group leader with the 4’s through K’s. She currently serves in the role of Jr. Kid’s Life Department Director and is a Large Group Leader for the Jr. Kids Life area, teaching the lesson and leading worship for children ages 2 through K.  Something that she enjoys most right now from Kids Life is seeing her own two kids dance and sing throughout the week the songs that they learned on Sunday. She loves being able to ask her children who made this or that and hear them shout that God made it all.

Moore, Cindy

Cindy Moore – All things orange

Cindy’s first position in Kids’ Life was photocopying curriculum (after checking copyright permissions, of course!) and handing them out to cell group leaders. That was about 8 years ago, and she is so relieved that it’s all online now. Although she doesn’t have kids of her own (unless you count Reggie, a very needy poodle), Cindy is passionate about advocating for kids and helping parents integrate faith and character into their kids’ lives. She is amazed at how LCC’s kids are experiencing community with their peers and loves worshipping with them on Sunday mornings. Cindy has been a Kids’ Life cell group leader, part of the large group team and is currently leading a special group of 6th grade kids in focusing on service and leadership.

Carrie Davis – Sign-In Desk

Carrie has worked in Kid’s Life for over 5 years. She started out as a Kid’s Life Cell Group Leader for 1st -3rd grade then later became a 4th – 6th grade cell leader. She has enjoyed watching the kids grow both physically and spiritually over the years. The highlight of her time in Kid’s Life was having the opportunity to help baptize one of her 5th graders. Carrie is currently Department Director for the Sign-In desk. (You know, the people always asking you for your phone number before your kids enter their classrooms?) It is a joy to have the opportunity to greet you and your children first thing on Sunday morning and also release a happy child safely to you when the service is over.
